Respecting Our God

 “In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And his children will have refuge.”

Proverbs 14:26

George Washington said, “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” July fourth is a monumental day in the history of the United States of America.  It’s the day of their freedom, the day they declared their independence from Britain. I’ve taken an excerpt from the closing paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson who went on to become the third president of the United States of America.

“We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States”.

Fifty-six brave men took a stand for liberty, not counting their lives, willing to die if necessary.  Where does such bravery come from, beloved?  There is only one fear that brings strong confidence, beloved.  The fear of the Lord.    We see this fear as written in the very words of the Declaration of Independence; “Appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions”. These men recognized one Sovereign power over their lives, one Judge that they bowed the knee to, as all will, the One True Living God. They understood that the beginning of wisdom, of power for any country, or any person, was the fear of the Lord.   He is the ultimate Judge that everyone, “the world,” will have to answer to someday for everything.  Not only did these God fearing men know where their confidence came from but also that their fear of the Lord would be a refuge, a saving power for their children.

Oh that our country, our government leaders, would live with the fear of the Lord before their eyes that our children will have refuge. Any country, any people who acknowledge God as Judge will be strong and ensure a strong future for coming generations.   Look at any life, any nation, any people group, beloved, that has no fear of the Lord and you will see shackles of weakness and a future of bondage for their children.  When we are in fear to speak of the Lord, then there is no fear of the Lord!  The most powerful force in securing the future for our children, or grandchildren, precious one, is teaching them the fear of the Lord.   Is it any wonder that George Washington believed that you could not adequately govern without God or His Word?  Herein lies the secret to a powerful life, beloved.  How does your life align?

There is One who sits as supreme judge over all, and he is to have our respect at any cost.
