A Prayer for Protection and Safety during Winter Storms

It is difficult to know what the winter weather is going to be like. There are so many predictions and guesses for each of our cities, however, only God knows what will happen. I remember some of the greatest snow storms that I have been stuck in with my family as a girl. As a child winter weather meant a celebration: no school, pajama day, sledding, and hot chocolate. However, the reality is that winter storms can be very dangerous and scary, they can cause power outages, slippery roads, and lead to stranded individuals in the frigid temperatures.
When we are tempted to fear the winter storms this season, may we be reminded of dwelling in the shelter of our God who is the Most High. We can find rest in Him as we seek Him and pray to Him. He is our refuge, He is our fortress, and we trust in Him. This does not mean that we will avoid the storms and everything will always go the way that we hope, but it does mean that our souls can have continued security and rest in knowing that our eternity is established by Jesus and the temporary hardships will not last forever.
Whether it is holiday travel, living in a snowy state, or being caught in an unexpected storm in a warmer place, we can affirm Who sees us and cares for our needs today and anytime when we need a reminder. We can remind our hearts of who God is and how He is working amid our winter messes. Nothing surprises Him, nothing is too hard for Him, and those who believe in Jesus are always protected and safe forever.
Let's Pray:
Dear God Over the Storm,
Thank you for never leaving us or forsaking us. Thank You for seeing what is happening this winter and you are fully aware of the storms that have and will take place. Will you please help us to rest in You in the unknowns of this cold threat. We pray over those first who do not have warm homes or places to go. Father, warm them, provide shelter for them in local rescue missions, open up our hearts to helping those with great basic needs. You tell us to care for the poor, remind and convict our hearts to do so in the cold.
We also pray for those who are working in law enforcement, fire rescues, hospitals, and city workers. We pray for special discernment how to navigate the roads, the sick, and the power outages. We pray for peace for families who wait anxiously for their return home. We pray for those watching the weather and giving us their best predictions. Would you help them to be as accurate as possible and warn communities in advanced to help them prepare well.
We pray for protection and safety on the roads and traveling on holidays to see loved ones. Keep everyone alert and aware of those around them. We pray against wrecks, impatience, reckless choices, and ice. We ask for you to guide us on the best times to go and come.
We pray that You would help our hearts to dwell in Your Shelter Almighty. Hide us in the shadow of Your wings. Keep us close to Your heart as we have fears and uncertainties. We affirm that You are our Refuge and Fortress, the God whom we trust. Guide us in how to prepare for storms, what supplies to have for our families, and who we should be checking on. We pray especially for the elderly and widows who might be overlooked. Put specific names on our hearts to care for and check on during and after the storms. Help us to live missionally this winter. Give us the joy in our hearts to serve others and be generous to meet their needs. Thank You for looking after our needs. We praise You that we do not have to fear the storm because You are with us. Amen.
