A Prayer to Believe God for Good Things

It’s hard to see the good in life when what we see in front of us doesn’t look or feel-good right now. It’s hard to see any sort of goodness of God when pain, loss and heartache is all we see in our circumstances. But what if part of believing God for the good things is looking for the good things in our life? You may have heard it asked before, but what if you woke up tomorrow with the things you thanked God for today?
It’s a piercing question. Looking for the good things in your life, even during not-so-good circumstances, is far better than looking at the not-so-good. We tend to focus our attention on the not so good circumstances rather than focusing on the good within the current circumstances. Such as the food you have to eat today, the body you have to move today, the mind you have to use today, the eyes you have to see today, the friends and family you have to love today, and the ‘new mercies every morning’ that we receive every day. (Lamentations 3:22-23). We have so many blessings around us, and we will see them if we look for them.
I’m sorry for whatever hard circumstance you are facing right now, maybe from a job loss, loss of a friend or loved one due to death or a betrayal, health pains and diagnoses, financial hardship, or loneliness. Whatever it is that you are facing in your life that doesn’t look or feel good, remember to cling to today’s verse, It talks about how in the middle of our not-so-good circumstances, we can still believe God for the good things because He has gone before us and follows behind us in our circumstance. He already knows the ending to the story. He knows what you are going through and is with you.
On top of all His nearness, today’s scripture also says that His very own hand of blessings are being placed upon us. How reassuring is that? We can begin to believe God again for the good things to come because we already have good things today that we can look to. We must stop looking down or directly at our circumstances and start looking up and above at our God of goodness and all the good things within our circumstances.
Let’s Pray:
Dear Lord,
You are a good, good Father. We praise you for the promise of Your presence in our daily life and your moment-to-moment nearness. Forgive us for complaining or remaining in a place of disbelief as we have been too focused on our circumstances at times rather than on the goodness of you. Thank you for your Word and for today’s reminder that you are completely with us in the middle of our circumstances as you have gone before and behind us. You know the beginning from the end of the circumstance we’re facing. Forgive us for not putting our focus on the good things that you have placed in our life as we are surrounded by your hand of blessings. Remind us each day to focus on the good things and all the blessings that come from you. We are not just blessed with the good things day to day, but we are lavishly cared for as there isn’t a moment that you are not by our side as we are navigating through our hard circumstance. Lord, what we are going through doesn’t feel good, but please remind me each day we wake up that you are good as we believe you for all the good things that are in our present life now, and for all the good things that are to come. We love you, and we’re forever grateful for the fact that we are abundantly cared for and loved by you.
In your mighty name we pray,
Amen
